This next free thing may be the most important: the free restrooms.
DeYoung Museum Restrooms
Golden Gate Park has a number of free restrooms available to the public. These are maintained by the Recreation and Parks department, and, for the most part, are well taken care of and are perfectly acceptable.
But if you have the opportunity, why not go in style? (Sorry, I’ve tried and there seems to be no way to avoid that joke.)
DeYoung Cafe next to restrooms
Inside the DeYoung lobby, just outside the museum café, are excellent museum quality restrooms. As I’ve explained before, unlike the Academy of Sciences across the concourse, you don’t have to pay to go into the DeYoung museum lobby. Inside the lobby is a rotating art display, and is worth visiting for that alone.
It is only available when the museum is open, so on most Monday’s, you’ll have to settle for the restrooms behind the bandshell.
